LES SOUVENIRS SE RAMASSENT À LA PELLE

I can take photographs before, during and after experiencing a city. But my body remembers best: the smell of the streets, the shape of the corners, the way the crowd moves, the small squares on the sidewalk under my feet, the variations of intensity and speed, the animal understanding of the safest areas, the presence of friends floating in the air, the memories turned into stones and light.

Beautifully poetic and so true. One can also sense the familiar in the unfamiliar . . . the kinds of things and scenes and expressions that you can find in every place regardless of how unfamiliar the place.
